What Is a DSP, Really - and Why It Matters in AI Too

When you hear the term DSP (Digital Signal Processor), many people think of audio, music, or image processing - and that’s correct. But today, the DSP has become a key player in the world of inference and performance optimization as well.

What Is a DSP?

A DSP is a dedicated processor for digital signal processing - that is, for data arriving as a sequence of samples: audio, video, sensor data, or even the outputs of layers in a neural model.

What sets it apart is its ability to perform mathematical computations very fast, especially repetitive operations such as:
